Herman E. Simmons, age 91, of Du Quoin, passed away peacefully at 9:03 AM on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Herman was born Saturday, May 27, 1933 in Du Quoin, a son of Earl and Leola (Harris) Simmons.
Herman was a remarkable individual who lived a life spanning nine decades, facing challenges and experiencing joys that shaped him into the kind-hearted and resilient person he became. Born in 1933, Herman grew up in a different generation, one marked by hardship, simplicity, and community. He served his country with honor in the United State Army, and worked tirelessly to build a better life for himself and those he loved. Throughout his 91 years, despite the many changes he saw, Herman remained committed to his values: hard work, loyalty, and compassion. He inspired those around him with his strength, humor, and generous spirit. His passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched.
